1. Lots of action, lots of whales
When the Atlantic herring arrive in the fjords north of Tromsø, so do the killer whales, or orcas, and humpback whales . You can witness humpback whales lunge feeding, orcas gathering herring into bait balls, watch fishing boats haul in their catches and marvel the raw beauty of the rugged winter landscape.
2. Fast travel time, more time with whales
Our boat MS Sylvkallen, a 17-metre-speed boat, takes us quickly and comfortably from Tromsø to the whales. No need for land-based transfers, you get to experience a full day ocean adventure. As the smallest boat offering daily whale watching trips from Tromsø, she is the perfect boat for those wanting a more closer-to-the-elements experience, while still having the comfort of warm indoor areas. Fully equipped with all necessary safety equipment, she is a sturdy and seaworthy boat, perfectly suited for the challenging northern sea conditions.
3. Respect for wildlife
We pride ourselves in responsible whale watching, and operate in accordance with international whale watching guidelines, and do not approach closer than 50-100 metres. If the situation requires, we stay further away. The whales come first – we want the encounters to happen on their terms, and do our best to minimise our impact on their behaviour. Nice, relaxed close encounters happen when the whales feel comfortable and not threatened. We believe that by following established guidelines to our best ability, maintaining professional seamanship, respecting wildlife and others at sea, and committing to ongoing education and learning, we can ensure our whale watching tours are conducted in a responsible and sustainable manner.
4. Small business, big heart
We are a small, privately owned business with a deep passion for what we do. We want our customers to have an unforgettable, safe and inspirational day out at sea. Every trip is just as special for us, and every trip is its own little adventure. Our crew have many years of experience in whale watching and seafaring, and are at their happiest out at sea.
Small groups with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere make the trip feel personal. Our guests are not just numbers for us.
We collaborate with research organisations such as the Norwegian Orca Survey, collect data for them and share information.
5. City life meets Arctic wilderness
Tromsø is a vibrant arctic city with great transport connections, and the best of all, nature and wildlife are never far away! It is the perfect destination for nature lovers and culture seekers alike. With us, you can get out to the whales in about 2.5 hours from Tromsø, spend the daylight hours watching whales, and be back in Tromsø in the afternoon. You can enjoy the evening in the multiple restaurants in town, or marvel the northern lights that often light up the polar night of the north.
