SYLVKALLEN
Our boat MS Sylvkallen is a 17-metre monohull with two cosy indoor lounges and a spacious deck. As the smallest boat offering daily whale watching trips from Tromsø, she is the perfect boat for those wanting a more close-to-the-elements experience, while still having the comfort of warm indoor areas. Fully equipped with all necessary safety equipment, she is a sturdy and seaworthy boat, perfectly suited for the challenging northern sea conditions.
History of the boat
Sylvkallen was built in 1986 as a combined passenger and ambulance boat, originally named Prospect. Designed to transport and assist residents of the remote islands outside Sognefjord, it was built to withstand even the roughest weather conditions.
In 2009, the vessel was extended by nearly two meters, and the wheelhouse was rebuilt. The former patient treatment area at the stern was repurposed into a passenger lounge, improving its comfort and functionality. Further renovations took place in 2020, when the lounge areas were refurbished, giving the boat its current appearance.
Sylvkallen is named after a 1,310-metre peak in the Sunnmøre Alps, overlooking the boat’s home port at Christian Gaard Bygdetun in Trandal, Hjørundfjord.
