Whale watching adventure from Tromsø (Tromso)

Abbiamo fatto un tour con questa compagnia, che dire, barca perfetta, pulita, calda comoda e soprattutto veloce, siamo stati tra i primi ad arrivare nella zona delle balene dopo circa due ore e mezza di attraversata, nel frattempo la guida ci ha spiegato in maniera semplice e veloce un po di cose da sapere a riguardo degli animali che avremmo potuto avvistare.
A bordo c’è una comoda macchinetta per caffè e bevande calde in generale, con tanto di abbondanti biscotti.
Il whale watching vero e proprio è durato circa due ore e mezza, anche di più, e la cosa che ho ritenuto veramente un passo avanti è stata l’abbandonare la zona quando troppe altre barche si avvicinavano alla nostra, ovviamente dopo averci chiesto se fossimo d’accordo e contenti, per cercare altre balene lontano dalle altre imbarcazioni.
Insomma, un’esperienza non propriamente turistica per una volta, e ben più efficace, alla fine abbiamo visto tutto, e anzi siamo stati l’ultima imbarcazione ad andare via, quando saremmo già dovuti essere di ritorno, e i ragazzi ci hanno concesso una mezzoretta da soli con un paio di megattere che stavano riposando in superficie, lasciandoci godere appieno fino all’ultimo istante l’esperienza.

Amazing even though I was sea sick. Amazing explanations, I would have loved even more. The boat was decent size so we were not too many compared to some boats we saw. I really appreciate the respect the crew had for the wild life

Had a fantastic two days of watching orcas, humpback and fin whales with NjordAdventures. Would highly reccomend booking a tour with them if you wish to go whale watching from Tromso in winter. The crew are very passionate about what they do and want you to have the best experience possible whilst also following good practices to avoid disturbing the whales.

Will definetly be coming back to Tromso again and booking more tours with them!

Thankful for this great experience. The communication was on point and the service just great. With patience we were lucky to see Orcas and humpback whales. Definitely book here! A small Norwegian company that truly does everything possible to give you the best experience. The highlight of our trip was seeing the orcas and the fin whale. The crew went above and beyond to make this possible, while always respecting the animals and never disturbing them — unlike some other boats we saw. We’re very happy we chose this company. We had an amazing whale watching experience with Njord Adventures. The boat is small but comfortable. If you tend to become sea sick, a bigger boat might be a better option but this smaller boat ensures that the group on the boat isn't too big. We had taken another boat in the year before and this experience was closer to the whales and people were not in each other's ways. I also need to mention that the crew made sure to navigate the waters respectfully and carefully and it never felt like we were "chasing" the whales and let them come towards us instead. The guide and the captain were very nice and did a great job. I would always book again with this company.

Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Ausflug mit Njord Adventures. Die Kommunikation war von Anfang an sehr gut – wir haben die Tour bereits einige Wochen vor unserer Reise nach Tromsø gebucht, da uns ein kleines Boot mit wenigen Teilnehmern besonders wichtig war.

Einen Tag vor der Tour erhielten wir eine E-Mail mit der Information, dass am Vortag leider nicht viele Wale gesichtet wurden und man deshalb mit einem größeren Boot hinausfahren würde, um die Chancen zu erhöhen. Uns wurde dabei völlig offen gelassen, die Tour kostenfrei zu stornieren, falls das nichts für uns wäre – das fanden wir sehr fair.

Wir haben es absolut nicht bereut, teilgenommen zu haben. Wir fühlten uns jederzeit gut aufgehoben: Die gesamte Crew war unglaublich freundlich und aufmerksam. Für alles war gesorgt – Tee, Kaffee, heiße Schokolade, Snacks und sogar eine warme Suppe.

Besonders beeindruckt hat uns der respektvolle Umgang mit den Tieren. Die Crew näherte sich den Walen mit viel Rücksicht und ließ ihnen stets ausreichend Freiraum. Ein rundum tolles und verantwortungsbewusstes Erlebnis, das wir sehr empfehlen können.

Great tour — even the boat ride there was spectacular! We saw lots of orcas, including babies. The team was warm, very knowledgeable, and took plenty of time with everything. I’d definitely do it again!

Njord Adventures saved us from a bad day due to other trip cancellation without having got any information. They were really available for onboarding us and, thanks to their professionality we got a fantastic Whale watching tour! Thank you!

I did a lot of research before landing at Njord Adventures and it was perfect. Im early 30s with my husband and my mom. Didnt want to be stuck on a large boat with a million people for 7 hours and wasnt ready for a RIB boat. Njord has a smaller vessel with comfortable seating and amenities, perfect for optimizing wild life viewing with easy access being indoors to get warm and being outside on the decks for the glorious views. Our guide was a true professional in educating and helping us spot all the sea life. We saw swarms of orcas, 2 humpbacks, and even a fin whale. Amazing experience, I highly recommend.

My partner and me did the whale safari with Njord Adventures in mid-November 2025 and had an incredible day out in breathtakingly beautiful fjord scenery with lots of orcas, as well as several humpback whales and some fin whales (the latter didn't show much of themselves, but I trust our guide they were fin whales indeed) on a very comfy boat with an amazing crew.

While there is a bunch of whale watching tour operators in Tromsø to choose from, we were very happy we picked this one and highly recommend it for the following reasons (doesn't mean none of this applies to other operators as well, but for this one we can safely confirm):

• The code of conduct for responsible whale watching was perfectly followed. While we got very close especially to the orcas or rather they got close to us by themselves, great attention was paid not to harrass any whale with the boat.

• Thanks to the experience of the crew and their willingness also to spend more time for the tour and go further with the boat, we really saw a lot of whales, particularly orcas, and had plenty of time to watch and admire them.

• The crew, which consisted of our super friendly and knowledgeable guide Hannaleena and our experienced captain Jørn, was truly amazing. Hannaleena provided very interesting information about the whales (there was also a nice short presentation on the way to the whales) and took exceptional care of each passenger.

• Small boat with small group size. There are up to 36 passengers admitted on the boat. We were around 12 passengers that day, which created a very familiar and relaxed atmosphere, and the boat was super cosy and warm inside the cabin. (Only drawback: The boat might be a bit shakier than bigger boats in more turbulent waters, so my partner and me both felt a bit nauseous at some point on the way back, but neither we nor any of the other passengers required any of the sufficiently provided seasickness bags and Jørn manoeuvred the boat as calmly as possible.)

• We also very enjoyed the free hot drinks plus warm soup and cookies and I don't know whose playlist it was that we could listen to inside the cabin, but I very liked it.

So altogether, we had a fantastic experience with the whales and Northern Norwegian scenery. Thanks so much to Hannaleena and Jørn for the perfect day!

A dream come true What an absolute epic trip, to be able to watch whales in the wild (not captive in sea world) and with a great small crew with the knowledge and respect for the wilderness. The trip is fairly straightforward: you get into the boat they will sail into the Fjords where there's a higher chance to watch whales (about 1-2 hour sailing). Once there, the crew try to spot the whales from afar, sail towards them keeping a respectful distance from the whales to not scare or disturb them (we are the visitors).

The crew is composed by only 2: Hannalena and the captain. It's also focused on very small groups, which makes it very personalised and relaxed. You also notice this is very different than the other money-driven tours out there. They want you to have a great experience with the whales, sharing knowledge facts and explaining that we are there to watch and respect the animals as much as possible. This is a must for me personally: we are here to respect nature!

I did the trip twice because of the amazing experience, and I hope you do it to. Trust me, it's worth it. Every time you watch a whale jump, dive, or just show their fins, you will experience absolute joy. Bring good clothes for the weather, since you will be watching whales from the deck of the boat. And once you feel you have seen enough, get inside the cabin and grab a coffee, hot chocolate, cookies, or a hot soup the crew has prepared for you!

Excellent day out 🐋 We had an incredible day out with NjordAdventures. Orcas, humpback and fin whales in the space of a few hours! I had the pleasure of sharing this experience with friends and family, most of whom had never seen orcas before so it was very moving to see their reactions. Excellent crew and wonderful boat. We saw humpback whales and many orcas up close. Boat is fast and perfect size, not too big, not too small. We had a bonus on the way back seeing the Northern Lights. I totally recommend this crew and boat and would do it again

Sehr angenehme Tour mit tollen Gastgebern die jederzeit angesprochen werden können und Fragen beantworten. Das Boot hat eine gute Grösse und wir haben viele Orcas gesehen - lediglich die Instantsuppenauswahl hat nicht meinen Geschmack getroffen.

It was a perfect day! Amazing crew with a perfectly sized ship and group. We had the best time ever with the most magical views! And they are very respectful towards the whales and always told us where to see them. 1000% recommend!

Our first 9-hour expedition was with a different larger boat company and we didn’t see any whales… literally 0 and the whole thing felt rushed and cramped.

But this company, Njord Adventures, are amazing! We went on a smaller, more comfortable, and intimate boat and we were rewarded with numerous orcas (killer whales) and humpback whales. They even gave us soup towards the end of the trip to warm us up!

The water can get choppy, so take seasickness tablets before boarding. The staff keep you informed about bumps and waves, and they were absolutely incredible!

Fabulous experience! I was lucky enough to win this tour. Communication, friendliness and the tour itself was good. Although its a small boat tour, we were taken in a big boat to increase chances of seeing them, being end of season. We did see a few including orcas.

Wirklich ganz ganz toll! Ein kleines Unternehmen , dem es wirklich wichtig ist, dass ihre Gäste glücklich sind und die sich sehr um ihre Gäste bemühen. Hannalena hat uns viel über die Wale erzählt und durch das schnelle Boot waren wir auch in 2.5h bei den Walen. Wir haben ganz viele Wale gesehen , es war atemberaubend schön und trotzdem wurden die Tiere in ihrer natürliche Umgebung respektiert ( nicht zu nah dran gefahren, verfolgt etc). Als die meisten Boote umgekehrt sind , sind wir noch weiter gefahren und haben noch ein paar Walspots aufgesucht da noch etwas Tageslicht da war. Das sticht gegenüber anderen Anbietern definitiv hervor. Auch die kleine Gruppengröße von höchstens 30 , macht die Tour sehr privat und entspannt. Es gab die ganze Tour über gratis Tee und Kaffee sowie Suppe . Wir haben uns wirklich sehr sehr wohl gefühlt und hatten den besten Tag seit langem. Auf der Rückfahrt konnten wir sogar noch Polarlichter sehen. Danke 🤗 bucht diese Tour , ihr werdet es nicht bereuen .

We had the most wonderful time with Njord Adventures! The boat was the perfect size - not too big or crowded but still big enough to have a heated indoor space to warm up. We saw lots of orcas, humpback whales and a fin whale. The team was lovely and we stayed a bit longer than expected as we encountered a pod of orcas as we were leaving the area.

The best compromise in therms of comfort and speed, plus an amazing guide! The trip with Njord Adventures was unforgettable! I’ve done the whales tour before with other boats and, in my opinion, theirs have a good compromise with size, speed and comfort. It’s only 2h30 to reach the fjords where the whales are, which allowed us to stay much more time around there to try to spot them. We spend a long time enjoying Orcas and Hampacks and got a beautiful gift in the end with a curious Orca playing sooo close to the boat. And that was thankful to them that pushed a bit longer as the weather was good and they could spot more animals around. We had a safe trip, they respect the animals, their space, the distance. We had hot drinks and snacks available the whole time and soup on the way back. Jørn sailed us very safely and also safe for the whales. Hannaleena was super kind, full of knowledge and very passionate. She was all the time checking the fjords to try to spot them. We had explanations about the weather conditions, what to expect and all the details of the whales we’ve seen and their behavior. Absolutely unforgettable experience!

This whale watching tour was truly one of the highlights of our trip. The crew was incredibly friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. They explained everything clearly and made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable throughout the journey.

We were lucky enough to see whales up close, and the crew handled the encounter with great respect for the animals and nature. The boat was well maintained, warm, and comfortable, and the overall organization was excellent.

You can really feel their passion for what they do. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Tromsø — this is a must-do experience!

Ein Traum ging in Erfüllung ❤️ Es war phantastisches Erlebnis, absolut liebe und professionelle Crew, die sich immer Zeit genommen hat und gerne ihr Wissen teilte. Mein Sohn und ich waren so begeistert, daß wir den Tag drauf auch nochmal mit dabei waren. Am ersten Tag haben wir viele Orcas gesehen, am zweiten Tag kamen dann noch Buckelwale und Finnwale dazu. We had a fabulous time with the team at Njord Adventures. Pro-Tip: BRING ANTI-NAUSEA meds. The seas are rough and it's a 3-4 hour journey before you reach where the whales are located. The whales are fantastic and worth putting up with the other sea sick travelers!

Nous avons vécu une superbe expérience avec Njord Adventures. Le personnel est accueillant, souriant et très compétent. Le petit bateau, à la fois chaleureux et confortable, permet une sortie agréable et conviviale.

Nous avons eu beaucoup de chance : orques et baleines étaient au rendez-vous ! Tout au long de l’excursion, l’équipe a veillé à respecter pleinement les animaux, en gardant toujours la bonne distance — ni trop près, ni trop loin — ce que nous avons beaucoup apprécié.

Une sortie magnifique que nous recommandons vivement. Une expérience à vivre au moins une fois !

Wir sind um 8:30 Uhr gestartet mit einer entspannten und vor allem schönen Tour. Unser Guide hat uns viel erzählt.
Was alles so perfekt macht, war das wir als erstes da waren, mit am längsten geblieben sind und am Ende noch mit den Orcas fuhren. Ich kann alles nur empfehlen!
