Great boat, staff and tour. Saw maybe 100 orcas, 10 Humpback whales, and 3 Fin whales. Absolutely amazing!

An unforgettable experience with Njord Adventures!

It was absolutely beautiful. For the first time in our lives, we saw whales – including orcas.
We started the tour at 08:15 AM and returned around 4:00 PM. The weather was fantastic and the scenery was breathtaking: snow-covered fjords, stunning nature, and incredible light.

Yes, it was freezing cold, but that only made the experience even more special. We were able to watch the orcas for almost two hours, which was truly magical.

The Njord Adventures team was incredibly friendly, professional, and welcoming. We felt well taken care of throughout the entire trip.

We would definitely book another tour with them and can highly recommend Njord Adventures!

Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Ausflug mit Njord Adventures. Die Kommunikation war von Anfang an sehr gut – wir haben die Tour bereits einige Wochen vor unserer Reise nach Tromsø gebucht, da uns ein kleines Boot mit wenigen Teilnehmern besonders wichtig war.

Einen Tag vor der Tour erhielten wir eine E-Mail mit der Information, dass am Vortag leider nicht viele Wale gesichtet wurden und man deshalb mit einem größeren Boot hinausfahren würde, um die Chancen zu erhöhen. Uns wurde dabei völlig offen gelassen, die Tour kostenfrei zu stornieren, falls das nichts für uns wäre – das fanden wir sehr fair.

Wir haben es absolut nicht bereut, teilgenommen zu haben. Wir fühlten uns jederzeit gut aufgehoben: Die gesamte Crew war unglaublich freundlich und aufmerksam. Für alles war gesorgt – Tee, Kaffee, heiße Schokolade, Snacks und sogar eine warme Suppe.

Besonders beeindruckt hat uns der respektvolle Umgang mit den Tieren. Die Crew näherte sich den Walen mit viel Rücksicht und ließ ihnen stets ausreichend Freiraum. Ein rundum tolles und verantwortungsbewusstes Erlebnis, das wir sehr empfehlen können.

Fantastic tour, the crew, the boat, and of course the whales were perfect. We spent a lot of time with the whales and even stayed a bit longer than expected to enjoy some very close encounters. We saw 25+ orcas and a couple of humpback whales. Highly recommend!

Gestern waren wir mit Njord Adventures auf Whalewatching Tour. Es ist absolut empfehlenswert. Auf dem Weg hin gibt es einen kleinen Vortrag über die Wale die man sehen könnte. Wir waren eines der ersten Boote bei den Walen und man merkt den Guides ihre Liebe zu den Tieren wirklich an. Alle haben die Zeit vergessen und wir waren bis es zu dunkel wurde um etwas zu sehen im Fjord. Es wurde sehr respektvoll mit den Walen umgegangen. Andere Boote sind nahezu in die Wale reingefahren, bei uns kamen die Wale von selbst sehr nah ans Boot. Hannaleena und ihre Crew waren sehr hilfsbereit und immer sehr sehr freundlich. Sie haben sich gegen das Arbeiten in einem Unternehmen entschieden, das gegen die ethischen Grundsätze der Welt der Wale arbeitet und sich selbstständig gemacht. Auf dem Rückweg gab es Suppe und Hannaleena hat nochmals erklärt, welche Wale wir gesehen haben. In unserem Fall Finnwale, Orcas und Buckelwale. Das Team hilft auch bei der Wal Research und beobachtet genau, welche Wale im Fjord auftauchen. My only bucket list dream was to see orcas in the wild, and Njord Adventures made that possible! We had the most incredible experience right beside the orcas while they rode the waves next to us. 10/10 experience!

Perfect day with lots of whales, incredible scenery and an amazing crew My partner and me did the whale safari with Njord Adventures in mid-November 2025 and had an incredible day out in breathtakingly beautiful fjord scenery with lots of orcas, as well as several humpback whales and some fin whales (the latter didn't show much of themselves, but I trust our guide they were fin whales indeed) on a very comfy boat with an amazing crew.

While there is a bunch of whale watching tour operators in Tromsø to choose from, we were very happy we picked this one and highly recommend it for the following reasons (doesn't mean none of this applies to other operators as well, but for this one we can safely confirm):

• The code of conduct for responsible whale watching was perfectly followed. While we got very close especially to the orcas or rather they got close to us by themselves, great attention was paid not to harrass any whale with the boat.

• Thanks to the experience of the crew and their willingness also to spend more time for the tour and go further with the boat, we really saw a lot of whales, particularly orcas, and had plenty of time to watch and admire them.

• The crew, which consisted of our super friendly and knowledgeable guide Hannaleena and our experienced captain Jørn, was truly amazing. Hannaleena provided very interesting information about the whales (there was also a nice short presentation on the way to the whales) and took exceptional care of each passenger.

• Small boat with small group size. There are up to 36 passengers admitted on the boat. We were around 12 passengers that day, which created a very familiar and relaxed atmosphere, and the boat was super cosy and warm inside the cabin. (Only drawback: The boat might be a bit shakier than bigger boats in more turbulent waters, so my partner and me both felt a bit nauseous at some point on the way back, but neither we nor any of the other passengers required any of the sufficiently provided seasickness bags and Jørn manoeuvred the boat as calmly as possible.)

• We also very enjoyed the free hot drinks plus warm soup and cookies and I don't know whose playlist it was that we could listen to inside the cabin, but I very liked it.

So altogether, we had a fantastic experience with the whales and Northern Norwegian scenery. Thanks so much to Hannaleena and Jørn for the perfect day!

A dream come true What an absolute epic trip, to be able to watch whales in the wild (not captive in sea world) and with a great small crew with the knowledge and respect for the wilderness. The trip is fairly straightforward: you get into the boat they will sail into the Fjords where there's a higher chance to watch whales (about 1-2 hour sailing). Once there, the crew try to spot the whales from afar, sail towards them keeping a respectful distance from the whales to not scare or disturb them (we are the visitors).

The crew is composed by only 2: Hannalena and the captain. It's also focused on very small groups, which makes it very personalised and relaxed. You also notice this is very different than the other money-driven tours out there. They want you to have a great experience with the whales, sharing knowledge facts and explaining that we are there to watch and respect the animals as much as possible. This is a must for me personally: we are here to respect nature!

I did the trip twice because of the amazing experience, and I hope you do it to. Trust me, it's worth it. Every time you watch a whale jump, dive, or just show their fins, you will experience absolute joy. Bring good clothes for the weather, since you will be watching whales from the deck of the boat. And once you feel you have seen enough, get inside the cabin and grab a coffee, hot chocolate, cookies, or a hot soup the crew has prepared for you!

Abbiamo fatto un tour con questa compagnia, che dire, barca perfetta, pulita, calda comoda e soprattutto veloce, siamo stati tra i primi ad arrivare nella zona delle balene dopo circa due ore e mezza di attraversata, nel frattempo la guida ci ha spiegato in maniera semplice e veloce un po di cose da sapere a riguardo degli animali che avremmo potuto avvistare.
A bordo c’è una comoda macchinetta per caffè e bevande calde in generale, con tanto di abbondanti biscotti.
Il whale watching vero e proprio è durato circa due ore e mezza, anche di più, e la cosa che ho ritenuto veramente un passo avanti è stata l’abbandonare la zona quando troppe altre barche si avvicinavano alla nostra, ovviamente dopo averci chiesto se fossimo d’accordo e contenti, per cercare altre balene lontano dalle altre imbarcazioni.
Insomma, un’esperienza non propriamente turistica per una volta, e ben più efficace, alla fine abbiamo visto tutto, e anzi siamo stati l’ultima imbarcazione ad andare via, quando saremmo già dovuti essere di ritorno, e i ragazzi ci hanno concesso una mezzoretta da soli con un paio di megattere che stavano riposando in superficie, lasciandoci godere appieno fino all’ultimo istante l’esperienza.

I was on board the MS Sylvkallen on Saturday, November 15, 2025, and again on November 18, 2025.
Hannalena, our tour guide, and Jørn, our captain, were fantastic.
They both radiated such calm and serenity. They are attentive to their guests on board and always have time for a chat. The boat is small, which makes these trips more personal and intimate.
I always felt safe and very comfortable.
There is also free tea and coffee, as well as hot soup on the return trip. This is great when you're frozen after whale watching.
On my last tour on November 18, 2025, I encouraged two people to join me on this trip. They booked spontaneously on my recommendation and were totally overwhelmed by how beautiful and eventful this tour was. They were Ray from the USA, Sam from Perth, Gucci from England, and me as their “Lucky Roland.” We had such a great time on board!!!
Of course, we also saw lots of orcas, humpback whales, and even fin whales.
All this because Hannalena and Jørn always took us to the right spots. I already know Daniel from my vacations in 2022 and 2023.
Back then, I was also traveling with the crew of the MS Sylvkallen.

Wow! I can't think of a better way to describe the adventure we had with Njord Adventures in Tromsø last Saturday. The experience we booked was even better than expected. We had the opportunity to watch the whales up close, and we were given lots of information. The whole crew was fantastic — so kind, and always pointing out where the orcas were coming from. I would definitely recommend booking a whale-watching tour here, and if we ever come back, this is the tour we want to take again.

Thankful for this great experience. The communication was on point and the service just great. With patience we were lucky to see Orcas and humpback whales. We were given plenty of time to watch, enjoy and take pictures. I got to know a lot more about the whales we saw than imagined. Thank you Njord team for making our trip extra special.

What an experienced crew, Hannaleena was so knowledgeable, informing us on all key aspects, whilst giving us space to experience the journey and serene destination, taking in the experience and encounters with the whales. It was great to leave early in the day and make the most of the light and have as much time as needed. We were so lucky to see many Orcas feeding and sleepy hump back whales too in the setting of the incredible arctic landscape. My daughter and i will never forget the experience and we hope to return to Norway and book again with Njord Adventures in the future. I did a lot of research before landing at Njord Adventures and it was perfect. Im early 30s with my husband and my mom. Didnt want to be stuck on a large boat with a million people for 7 hours and wasnt ready for a RIB boat. Njord has a smaller vessel with comfortable seating and amenities, perfect for optimizing wild life viewing with easy access being indoors to get warm and being outside on the decks for the glorious views. Our guide was a true professional in educating and helping us spot all the sea life. We saw swarms of orcas, 2 humpbacks, and even a fin whale. Amazing experience, I highly recommend.

Uns wurde empfohlen, eine Walbeobachtungstour mit einem kleineren Boot zu machen und nicht mit einem Katamaran. Also haben wir uns für Njord Adventures und ihr Boot „MS Sylvkallen“ entschieden.
Das war eine gute Wahl. Wir haben uns an Bord sehr wohl gefühlt, den ganzen Tag über gab es kostenlose Heißgetränke und Kekse, und zum Mittagessen wurde uns sogar eine heiße Suppe serviert.

Hannaleena hab uns eine Präsentation und viele Informationen über Wale und darüber, warum wir mit dem Boot genau dorthin gefahren sind, wo wir waren. Auch sonst hat sie alle Fragen ausführlich beantwortet.

Das Wal-Erlebnis war fantastisch. Natürlich ist das Natur und außerhalb menschlichen Einflusses – aber wir wurden wirklich verwöhnt: Finnwale, Buckelwale und unzählige Orkas.

Der Kapitän Jørn hat alles getan, um uns so nah wie möglich an die Tiere heranzubringen – jedoch immer mit dem nötigen Respekt ihnen gegenüber. Ich hatte nie das Gefühl, dass wir ihre natürlichen Verhaltensweisen gestört haben.

Wegen der enormen Menge an Tieren hat der Kapitän uns etwas mehr Zeit bei den Walen gegeben, so dass wir wirklich ein grandioses Erlebnis hatten.

Die Tour hat meine Vorstellungen noch übertroffen. Wie haben an einem nicht so klaren Tag zwar etwas länger gebraucht bis wir die Wale gefunden haben, aber als wir dann die Location erreicht haben war es wie in einem Traum. Die Guides liessen uns auch lange Zeit und wir konnten mehrmals verschiedene Wale sehen. Bei uns waren es Buckelwale und Orcas. Die Guides haben auch auf der Fahrt immer wieder etwas erzählt und achteten auch immer auf genügend Abstand. Die Fahrt mit dem Boot nach Skervøy geht teilweise über das offene Meer und wenn man seekrank wird kann das recht übel werden. Aber wenn das überstanden ist, lohnt es sich sehr.😊

Nous avons eu beaucoup de chance : orques et baleines étaient au rendez-vous ! Tout au long de l’excursion, l’équipe a veillé à respecter pleinement les animaux, en gardant toujours la bonne distance — ni trop près, ni trop loin — ce que nous avons beaucoup apprécié.

The experience was totally amazing, the guide was very knowledgeable and kind, always giving her best so we could see all species, we indeed saw and it was a magical experience! Would definitely recommend to everyone.

We had a great trip and saw multiple large orca pods, saw 2 humpback whales and shortly a finn whale. The crew was very friendly and the boat has a good speed. It gets quite bumpy when passing areas closer to the ocean. Also be aware that the boat is driving a long distance until you reach the whale areas. However with Njord we have been one of the first boats there and left as the last boat - so we spend the most time of all other companies with the whales.

The soup which is included is just a small instant soup. That could be improved. They provide free tea and coffee which is nice.

Had a brilliant trip with Njord Adventures.

The boat is great, plenty of space. The journey, whilst long, is stunning. The crew are knowledgable and friendly and they get you close enough to be in awe of these wonderful creatures whilst still respecting their space.

It was a really magical and emotional day which I'll never forget and I'd recommend this trip to anyone visiting Tromsø.

Nach zahlreichen erfolglosen Whale Watching Tours in allen Ländern hat mir Njord Adventures endlich meinen Traum erfüllt Orcas in freier Wildbahn hautnah zu erleben. Die Tour war mit Abstand die Beste, die ich bisher erlebt habe. Die Crew hat uns mit sehr viel Rücksicht & genügend Abstand zu den Tieren einen magischen Tag geschenkt. Wir haben super viele Orcas und Buckelwale gesehen. Das Boot ist sehr komfortabel. Für heiße Getränke, eine saubere Toilette an Board ist gesorgt. Was mir besonders gut gefallen hat, ist das wir uns sehr lange bei den Tieren aufgehalten haben. Der Kapitän hat uns immer wieder Richtung der Wale gebracht, ohne zu aufdringlich zu den Tieren zu sein. Ich kann diese Tour zu 1000% empfehlen und bin froh, dass ich mich für diesen kleineren Anbieter entschieden habe. Es waren nur ca 30 Menschen. Jeder hatte einen bequemen Platz und auch beim Fotografieren und Filmen hatten wir alle genug Platz, um etwas zu sehen. Tausend Dank an Njord Adventures!

After researching options I’m very glad to have booked with Njord. Every day out in the sea is different and in many ways the sea gods blessed us on our tour, but I’d go out with them again any day. Great combo of care for the guests and marine life!

Ottima esperienza. La nave era dotata di tutti i comfort necessari (bagno, sedute comode, tavolini e spazio esterno) con un massimo di 36 persone, che penso sia un plus rispetto alle navi da 200 persone. La guida e il capitano sono stati eccezionali: ci hanno spiegato molto bene tutte le fasi dell'attività, lasciando spazio a domande/chiarimenti e soprattutto ci hanno fatto godere ogni singolo momento, rispettando anche il silenzio in alcuni momenti cruciali. Sono stati molto rispettosi dell'ambiente e degli animali marittimi incontrati, cercando di non interferire nelle loro attività, ma facendoci comunque avvicinare abbastanza da creare un momento bellissimo.
Alla fine dell'attività ci son state spiegate le diverse specie incontrate, con tanto di immagini e cartoline ricordo.
Consigliatissimo, attività locale da sostenere assolutamente!

Wirklich ganz ganz toll! Ein kleines Unternehmen , dem es wirklich wichtig ist, dass ihre Gäste glücklich sind und die sich sehr um ihre Gäste bemühen. Hannalena hat uns viel über die Wale erzählt und durch das schnelle Boot waren wir auch in 2.5h bei den Walen. Wir haben ganz viele Wale gesehen , es war atemberaubend schön und trotzdem wurden die Tiere in ihrer natürliche Umgebung respektiert ( nicht zu nah dran gefahren, verfolgt etc). Als die meisten Boote umgekehrt sind , sind wir noch weiter gefahren und haben noch ein paar Walspots aufgesucht da noch etwas Tageslicht da war. Das sticht gegenüber anderen Anbietern definitiv hervor. Auch die kleine Gruppengröße von höchstens 30 , macht die Tour sehr privat und entspannt. Es gab die ganze Tour über gratis Tee und Kaffee sowie Suppe . Wir haben uns wirklich sehr sehr wohl gefühlt und hatten den besten Tag seit langem. Auf der Rückfahrt konnten wir sogar noch Polarlichter sehen. Danke 🤗 bucht diese Tour , ihr werdet es nicht bereuen .

We spent the day searching for the Orcas. We were lucky as they made an appearance. We also got to see humpback whales. The trip was well organised and comfortable. Slightly bumpy in places so I'd recommend taking sea sickness tablets if you're prone to that. The guide had a good knowledge and there was a general feeling of respect for nature and the whales. I would highly recommend.

Es war ein wunderschöner Tag, vielen Dank dafür. Es ist alles top von dem Team organisiert. Es gibt Kaffee, Tee, heiße Schokolade, Kekse und nachdem man die Wale gesehen hat, gab es auch Suppe. Es wird sich viel Mühe gegeben, dass man Wale sieht und dennoch auch die Tiere nicht bedrängt.
Wir hatten Glück und haben viele Orgas und einen Finnwal gesehen. ❤️

Wenn man seekrank wird, sollte man auf jeden Fall Reisetabletten nehmen, da es zwischendurch (ca. 20-30 Minuten) sehr wellig und rau ist.
